Syngonium podophyllum
Syngoniums
Eleven cultivars — arrowhead leaves in white, pink, gold and silver.
Syngonium is the cheapest way into variegated aroids, and the range of colour within one species is remarkable. Every plant on this page is Syngonium podophyllum; the difference is entirely in the cultivar, and it is dramatic — pure white, hot pink, gold-green, silver-veined, dark green with white venation.
They are also genuinely easy, which is unusual for anything this variegated. Bright indirect light, a pot that drains, and a pinch back when the vines run. The more strongly variegated forms want brighter light than the green one to hold their colour, but none of them want direct sun.
Every cultivar below is a separate plant on the bench, propagated and grown on here — not one plant photographed under different names.
Choosing between them
They are not interchangeable
The white and cream forms
White Butterfly is the reliable one — mostly cream with green margins, and it holds. Albo-Variegatum throws irregular pure-white sectors and is less predictable. Three Kings is paler overall and larger-leaved.
The pinks
Neon Pink is the solid hot pink. Pink Allusion is softer — a silvery leaf with pink veins and a pink flush. Maria runs bronze-pink and deepens with age. Red Spot is the darkest.
The greens and golds
Green is the plain species and the toughest of the lot. Golden Allusion is a warm yellow-green. Silver Pearl is grey-silver. Batik is dark green with a network of white veins and looks nothing like the rest.
