Palms are the backbone of most landscape work we do, and the range here reflects what actually performs in Pakistani conditions rather than what looks good in a catalogue. Some are hardy through a Punjab winter, some will not take a frost, and some are indoor plants that never see full sun.

Size at maturity is the thing people get wrong. A washingtonia planted two metres from a wall is a problem in five years. Every listing gives the mature height honestly, and if a palm is wrong for your space we would rather tell you before you buy it.

Choosing between them

They are not interchangeable

For indoors

Lady palm and areca are the two that genuinely tolerate a room. Both want the brightest spot you have and neither will accept dry air indefinitely — a lady palm is the more forgiving of the two.

For screening and avenues

Areca clumps knit into a screen within two seasons at one-metre centres. For an avenue at scale, washingtonia and the date palms give height fastest.

For a single specimen

Foxtail, royal bottle and Canary Island date are the ones people plant as the focal point of a courtyard. They are slower and dearer, and they are worth it.
