Hanging Basket

Planted hanging basket

Sold planted rather than empty, because a basket bought empty usually stays empty. Each one comes with an established trailing plant already filling it — money plant, wandering dude, string of bananas or pickle cactus depending on what is ready — with the trails long enough to hang properly from day one.

Baskets come with a hanger fitted and a drainage reservoir, which matters more than it sounds: hanging baskets dry out faster than anything else in a garden, and a small reservoir roughly halves how often you need to water.

  • Sold ready-planted with trails already long enough to hang
  • Built-in drainage reservoir halves watering frequency
  • Hanger fitted — nothing else to buy

How to look after your Hanging Basket

Written for Pakistani conditions — long hot summers, dry winter air, and hard tap water. Follow this rather than advice written for a temperate climate.

Light
Not applicable.
Water
Unglazed terracotta wicks moisture from the mix, so potted plants dry out faster than in plastic. Expect to water roughly a third more often.
Humidity
Not applicable.
Soil
Suits nearly all mixes. Particularly good for cacti, succulents and anything prone to root rot.
Feeding
Salts build up as white crust on the outside over time. Scrub with a stiff brush and rinse.
Temperature
Handles full sun and extreme heat. Keeps root zones several degrees cooler than plastic.

If something goes wrong

White crusting on the outside

Why it happens: Mineral salts from tap water and fertiliser wicking through the clay.

What to do: Cosmetic only. Scrub with a dry brush, or soak in a weak vinegar solution.

Hairline crack after winter

Why it happens: Water absorbed into the clay expanding in cold.

What to do: Raise pots off wet ground on feet so they are not standing in water.
