Hemerocallis hybrids
Each individual flower lasts one day — hence the name — but an established clump carries so many buds that it stays in continuous flower from May well into August. Between flushes the arching, strap-like foliage is a good structural filler in a border.
Day lilies are the toughest flowering perennial we sell. They handle heat, poor soil, irregular watering and division at almost any time of year, and they multiply steadily so one clump becomes five within a few seasons.

How to look after your Day Lily
Written for Pakistani conditions — long hot summers, dry winter air, and hard tap water. Follow this rather than advice written for a temperate climate.
- Light
- Full sun to light shade, depending on species. More sun means more flowers.
- Water
- Regularly while in active growth and flower. Reduce sharply once foliage yellows and the bulb enters dormancy.
- Humidity
- Ambient.
- Soil
- Free-draining soil enriched with compost. Bulbs sitting in wet soil rot.
- Feeding
- High-potassium feed while in growth. Feed after flowering too — that is when next year’s flower is built inside the bulb.
- Temperature
- 15–40°C in growth.
If something goes wrong
Leaves but no flowers
Why it happens: Bulb too small, overcrowded, or planted too deep.
What to do: Lift and divide the clump after dormancy, and replant with the neck at soil level.
Soft, mouldy bulb
Why it happens: Waterlogged soil.
What to do: Improve drainage before replanting. Discard any bulb that is soft to the touch.
